Sorry to
keep you all waiting, but I was too tired and excited
to write report when I got home last night.
Anyway,
here it is now.
After a dismal
journey through rain and heavy traffic on the motorway,
we arrived at Warwick racecourse. On the journey, I wondered
if we might get there only to find racing had been abandoned
because of the weather. But no, this was not the case.
Rain was now just a drizzle and a strong breeze was blowing
the clouds away - or around at least!
We saw Stuart
on our way in, who said that Muffin was fit and well and
ready to go.We met up with the small crew of guilders
in the owner's bar, and as Muffin's race was second on
the card, it was soon time to go out and see him in the
parade ring.
Warrior looked
splendid. He looked so fit and strong and full of energy.
He was prancing about, ears pricked and anxious to go.
He was drawn in 1 and they set off at a cracking pace
and he settled into second place behind Material Witness.
He always looked like a strong contender. The ground didn't
seem to bother him. Jockey Fergus Sweeney took advantage
of the draw by sticking close to the rail, as instructed.
(Where, I'm reliably informed, there is a strip of slightly
firmer ground). By the 6furlong mark, other horses were
beginning to fade, but Warrior looked as strong as ever.
On the replay,
they all seemed to be finding it hard work on the heavy
ground - but not our boy! At the last bend, he nipped
out and round the leader and tucked himself in again towards
the rail and made his bid for home. The leader tried to
respond, but to no avail. As the course commentator said,
"Guilded warrior swept passed" and won by 5 lengths. To
this observer, he was always a contender. He was strong
and powerful. He made it look easy! A cracking race.
Well done
Warrior. Well done Stuart and the team.
Hopefully,
he will be running again next Friday. I can't wait!
Cheers everyone,
Kath.
