Evening All,
All sitting
comfortably? - Then I'll begin!
We arrived
at Kempton on a cloudy but not unpleasant afternoon, and
after meeting Anthony, Paul and Martin in the bar (where
else?), we settled in for the afternoon's racing.
By the time
4 o'clock came, when some were celebrating earlier successes,
whilst others among us were counting the ever increasing
pile of discarded betting slips, we left the bar to watch
Molly and her opponents in the parade ring.
Molly, as
ever, looked the picture of calm serenity, and as she
was led around the ring, we had a quick chat with Neil
who, like the rest of us, felt that she was definitely
in with a shout if she could replicate her performance
at Wolverhampton, a view which seemed to be shared by
the bookies who had her at second favourite at the off.
When Liam
Keniry joined us, Neil instructed him to try to get Molly
up with the first five or six in the pack and settle her
in to the race until the last two to three furlongs in
the straight, before letting her run her race at the end.
The first
part of the plan seemed to be working well, but then she
came through the pack a little too quickly and was in
second place a good four and a half furlongs or so from
the finish, but failed to maintain this position and gradually
levelled out, before picking up the pace again to finally
finish fifth in a field of 14.
After the
race, Liam said that she seemed to run in spurts, and
he didn't feel that she'd given her all for the entirity
of the race, and felt that maybe another furlong or so
may do the trick next time out (yes, that old chestnut!)
Once the
de-brief was over, we all headed back to the bar feeling
a little deflated, but not too distraught (she did beat
nine home after all, so hardly a disgrace).
Hope I've
remembered all the important bits, but I'm sure the boys
will let me know if not.
Good Night
All Jackie
p.s Well
done Anthony on your placepot!
