Joy in the Guild, 11th September 2006 (Wolverhampton)

Hi guys,

Having arrived in plenty of time for the first race I met up with Dave who was first to arrive quickly followed by Tim, uncle Fester, and potential new member uncle ‘Tel’ a friend of Dave’s.

After putting the world to rights after a few soft drinks (as we are all responsible adults and were driving) Stuart met up with us and told us that Molly had travelled well etc.

In the parade ring Molly was very relaxed rather quiet we all thought and so did Stuart but she looked well credit to the team once again. Our jockey Liam Keniry listened to the orders of Stuart. Sit in behind and down the final back straight start making your move picking them off one by one as she finds confidence in this.

We all found a vantage point and with a mix of nerves and excitement on our part they were off. Liam settled her in behind and all seemed well as she passed us for the first time being in her ideal position. The back straight came and we waited for Liam and Molly to make their move as we know she can but the move never came and in the home straight she was still well behind and she finished only a couple of places from the rear.

We were all disappointed and at a loss for words including Stuart and so we headed over to meet Molly and Liam to see if he could shed some more light… disappointment turned quickly to slight concern as Liam explained that she was blowing a little hard in the stalls. Liam said she was “never on the bridle and ran very flat, and if she had been anywhere near her best would have been up there in the tree”. He said he pulled her wide in the straight to see if that would have an effect but no. We thanked Liam as he did everything asked.

She was blowing quite hard after the race Stuart and a couple of us noticed too. We met up in the bar to confer about the race and hoping that most importantly Molly was ok. We hope she was having an off day. Stuart reassured us that she will live to fight another day and not to worry and he will let us all know how she is.

On a lighter I must say I enjoyed your interview Stuart but what happened to ‘The Racing Guild.org plug!!!!! Only kidding I took a couple of photos and you looked F.A.B.!!

Cheers Debs
