Joy in the Guild, 10th August 2006 (Chepstow)

Whilst guzzling too many wines before Molly’s race I (Sue’s sister, Carol) was taken advantage of and readily agreed to write the race report! The morning after the day before (are you all with me?) I find myself regretting my impulsive nature and thinking ‘Why me’?

We all met up in the bar early and the mood was alike a bunch of 2 year olds at a party! Would Molly make her hat-trick? She was running with experienced horses for the first time! Whilst contemplating these facts over large glasses of wine, gazing over the balcony at the racecourse, eagled eyed Debs spotted Mike, the commentator for ‘At the races’ and never one to miss an opportunity (having just met her for the first time I had already gleaned this little bit of info) Debs grabbed Sue and myself and headed down there, big smiles and cleavages on the show, to request an interview. Obviously ……., like any full blooded stud, wasn’t a match for our wiley ways and promptly granted us one! Hope some of you caught us on the TV, plugging the Guild for at least 5 full minutes! We would now kindly request that the Guild’s Advertising budget be made available to buy us some drinks!

We managed to guzzle down another quick wine and then it was off to the paddock t meet up with Fergus and Molly. Molly looked spectacular (so did Fergus, of course, sporting advertising from Dave) and was definitely ready for a run. She was prancing about sideways, showing off and strutting her stuff….. typical female!

I’m sure that most of you watched the race. There were 3 non-runners and Molly and Fergus ran a great race, tucking in at the back and then moving her forward in the last 4 furlongs or so (couldn’t actually see but Tim was giving us a running commentary through his binoculars). Molly came a very close 4th.

Speaking to Fergus after the race he said that she was hanging left in to the rails and he was riding on one rein in the end. He felt maybe she had injured herself coming out of the stalls. However she looked o.k. walking off and I’m sure Stuart will give us a report of how she is today.

The rest of the afternoon was spent loosing money at the bar and tote and now I seriously have to go and nurse my hangover!

Thanks to all Guild members and friends for a great afternoon and Debs, we’ll see you in Ghana!
