Owners

As a Owner, how much can I influence the activities and have a say in The Racing Guild's operations?

The democratic organisation and nature of the guild means that the rules of management, ownership and operation are determined by a proposal/voting system which is conducted by the Owners through the Members' Forum of the website.

There are, however, certain restrictions on changes to The Racing Guild. The BHB and the Jockey Club have their own rules regarding clubs and syndicates. Although these rules are fairly liberal and flexible, contravention is not permitted. The guild is also subject to the provisions and stipulations of the Financial Services Act and other legislation. Hence it should not be promoted to the general public as an investment opportunity or a venture for profit.

Notwithstanding the above, any changes to the rules or operation of the guild must first be proposed by one of the Owners and must be seconded by at least two other Owners. This is all done through the Members' Forum on the website. A period of 14 days will be allowed for any Owners to give their views on the proposal(s) after which an open vote will be taken by all Owners. At least 60% of registered Owners must agree to the changes before they will become effective. Any changes which extend or significantly alter the scope of work and responsibilities of the Committee can be vetoed by the Committee.

The voting for the selection or reselection of Committee members may include owners putting themselves forward for selection on the basis of a "manifesto" which can include proposals to extend the scope of work and responsibilities which they commit to undertake.
