An almost flat, oval track, 1m5f round, with a run-in of four and a half furlongs and a straight six furlong course. The 1m 4f gate is set on a short chute. This course, which is of a galloping nature, suits the long-striding horse. On rain-affected turf, the going down the stands' rail in the straight is often faster and horses have often won races by being brought over to that side.

By Road: The course is on the A49 near junction 23 of the M6.

By Rail: Newton-le-Willows Station (Manchester-Liverpool line) is 2 and a half miles from the course. Earlstown 3 miles from the course. Warrington Bank Quary and Wigan are on the London to Carlisle/Glasgow line.
