A
pear-shaped, undulating course of 1m 5f with an extension for
a mile and a half start and a straight uphill run-in of three
and a half furlongs. The six furlong course (which includes
the five furlongs) starts on a chute, bears right for the first
furlong and a half and again at the turn into the straight.
The rise to the winning post, although it begins to level out
from 'the distance', makes it a stiff test of stamina.

Road: 2 miles south of the town (Durdar Road). Easy access from
the M6 (junction 42). The car park is free (adjacent to the
course).

Rail: Carlisle Station (2 miles from the course).
