The
course forms a horseshoe of 1m 4f round with easy turns and
a run-in of three and a half furlongs. The first three furlongs
are slightly uphill. Then there is a gentle descent and rise
to about four furlongs from home. From there the ground falls
steeply until about two furlongs out; then a sharp rise with
the last 100y level. The sharp track, reminiscent of Epsom with
its pronounced gradients, is unsuitable for big, long striding
animals, but it suits sharp sorts and is something of a specialists'
course. Low draw gives clear advantage on the shorter distances.
By Road: East of town on A27 (Lewes Road). There is a car park
adjoining the course.
Courtesy bus from Brighton rail station to racecourse (approx.
3 miles).
By
Rail: Brighton Station (from Victoria on the hour, London Bridge
or Portsmouth).
